Yolanda Murphy is sector vice president of communications for Northrop Grumman’s Defense Systems sector – a provider of broad-spectrum critical technology services, sustainment and modernization solutions, integrated battle command systems, and tactical weapons and information systems, focused on evolving threats and quick-turn requirements for a wide variety of national security, military and civilian customers. Yolanda is a member of the company’s Corporate Communications Leadership Team.
In this role, Yolanda oversees the strategy and execution of all communications activities for Defense Systems, including employee and executive communications, brand and marketing communications, media relations and program communications. She is an award-winning strategic communicator; a diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) champion; and a trusted advisor to the business’s key leadership.
Across her more than 16 years in Communications, Yolanda has led teams to produce award-winning programming and received national recognition for her leadership in the corporate promotion of education initiatives for K-12 in STEM. Her expertise in developing influential global communications campaigns for diverse audiences has had notable impacts on thought leadership perceptions across various product, capability and technology arenas.
Yolanda is passionate about advancing DEI programs, contributing to social change, mentoring young women and up-and-coming talent in their pursuit of leadership and leaving a meaningful legacy. Recognized as a change-maker and advocate for ‘bringing your whole self to work,’ Yolanda is regularly invited to speak to students, professionals and business leaders about servant leadership and how to manage their personal professional brand while maintaining their identity.
She lives to pay it forward and incorporates ways to serve underserved communities into her daily life. Yolanda is a strategic partner, communications advisor and member of Cornerstone Jamaica, Inc., an organization committed to creating sustainable programs that improve health and education in Jamaican communities. When Yolanda is not in the office, you will find her on the sidelines supporting her three children, working out or, as an avid foodie, indulging her inner gastronome.
