Josef M. Powell is Co-Founder, President & CEO of the Mapex Group of Companies, a leading supplier of Agricultural, Construction, Industrial, and Factory equipment and spare parts globally. Mapex represents over 20 first-class manufacturers for the entire Caribbean region and serves clients all throughout the Caribbean, Latin American, Asia, and Africa from its two offices in Manchester, Jamaica, and Orlando, Florida, USA.
The Mapex Group also includes LTI International, LLC, which is a 90+ year old regional player in the distribution of agricultural implement and construction attachments throughout the Southeast United States, as well as the Mapex Foundation, which focuses on Philanthropic initiatives in the Farming, Healthcare, and Education sectors in Jamaica and the Caribbean.
Josef strongly believes that we can play a role in changing the future of the world by educating youth, investing in farming and sustainable initiatives, and providing access to healthcare in rural and inner-city communities of developing nations. It is with this in mind that over the past decade the Mapex Foundation has focused on these sectors in Jamaica, providing over JA$8MM in scholarships, supporting multiple local sports teams, building or rebuilding school infrastructure at two schools, contributing to other local and international charities, and educating over 2,000 high school students on Financial Literacy through the “Teen Success Workshop” initiative.
Josef is a member of the International Society of Sugar Technologists (“ISSCT”) and has traveled extensively worldwide studying and training on new technologies and machinery suitable for Jamaican and Caribbean conditions (some countries include Belize, Brazil, Canada, Guatemala, India, Jamaica, USA, Venezuela, Columbia, and South Africa). Prior to founding Mapex, he was involved in successfully creating four startups, including a venture-backed technology company serving the worldwide sports market.
Josef has been invited to speak at the University of Miami’s Entrepreneurs Conference and many other Forums and serves or has served on the boards of LTI International, LLC, JPMP Investments, LLC, Random Media, LLC, The Jamaica USA Chamber of Commerce of Central Florida, Summit Property Solutions Group, LLC, and many other small and medium-sized businesses across the region. He is the Executive Chairman of the Mapex Foundation and is the Deputy Chairman of the Vera Eunice Bull/Maurice Powell Scholarship Fund, a non-profit dedicated to supporting and educating talented but underprivileged youth in Jamaica and the Caribbean.
Josef attended the prestigious Choate Rosemary Hall, holds a B.A. in Economics and Spanish from Williams College, and has completed Executive Education coursework in Finance and Business Strategy as well as Advanced Negotiation at Harvard Business School, and MIT.
